Harvey's RCVS complaint

Hi all,

I just wanted to update you on our complaint to the RCVS for the mis treatment of my poor bunny Harvey who suffered two broke legs! :(

My little man has fully recovered from his broken legs, although his left leg is slightly mis aligned & he doesn't sit flat on his foot he has made amazing progress and loves nothing more than playing out in the garden, binkying away & flopping out at my feet!

We have such a close relationship, it's slightly scary, but I couldn't be prouder of him.

He is still suffering with 2 nasty eye ulcers. But we are trying to remain positive these will go in time!

I am happy to say Harvey's claim has been viewed by a solicitor and a rabbit specialist who has agreed for the complaint to go through to stage 2. We are sewing for negligence and man-handling.

The RCVS are now in conversation with the veterinary practice & have requested a statement from the vet in question. So as soon as they receive this, they will send to me to pass comment on. This is due in very shortly and will be posting on here, so please do let me know your comments in due course.

Also if anyone has any advice or support on what I should do next. Please let me know.

Once again, huge thanks from everyone xx

Your original post about Harvey's horrendous experience was one of the first posts I saw when I first joined RU, I often think about it actually! I am glad Harvey is doing well now and that your complaint is going through to the next level. Keep us updated! Sending lots of positive vibes and nose rubs (for Harvey) :)

I'm pleased to see that the complaint has made it to the next stage. Remember to use the testimony from the new vet if they offer it to you.

Hi

No advice I'm afraid but thanks for updating us and I'm soooo glad he's doing well - I was really worried for him before. :( Good news about the complaint progressing too. :) Well done for going ahead with it, it can be difficult to find the energy for that kind of thing when you're looking after a poorly bunny too!

Thanks so much everyone, apart from these dam eye ulcers that don't want to go, he's done brilliantly! :)

Regarding his complaint, again huge thanks and oh yes I was determined to do it. They asked me if it did get raised to court, then what would I want.. I have asked for her veterinary licence to be removed permanently but I know it's not always this simple & suppose we'll have to wait and see. I am also looking to claim for the amount of fuel of driving to Swindon weekly, and taking 2 weeks off work unpaid to look after him, hmmm.. Not sure what they'll say, but I'm certainly going to try.

Thanks so much crunchie, will do and I'll all keep you updated on how this progresses! :)

Can't thank you guys enough.. You really have helped & supported me out so much xxx

So pleased you've updated us. Haven't much to say other than well done, but I will keep following to see what happens x

I would also request money fir if in future he suffers from related health issues such as arthritis etc in joints or

Are you checking his ears in case he cant quite clean the oroperly?

I haven't got much to say either apart from you have done such an amazing job with him, and I hope his eyes get better soon. I was thinking about him today actually and wondering how he's getting on, so thank you for the update! xx

I'm glad you are getting somewhere with this, it's just awful that the vet did this and even more awful that she denied it and blamed him for thumping his feet

Lovely to hear Harvey is back to binkying

Hello, So pleased Harvey's horrendous injuries are healed. Glad you may be able to get further with your complaint. I don't know anything about the legal system but feel you must be careful about making anything too public as you could be sued for slander/libel. Also, until everything has gone to court and been completed I think you stand a better chance of getting a good end result if you can sit on it all. We're all rooting for you but are prepared to wait for the outcome. Good luck.

I am so pleased that Harvey's injuries have healed and I do hope that his eye ulcers will resolve soon too.

With regards to the legal action, do be very careful how much information you post on a public forum. You'd be surprised how dirty the 'accused' and their legal team can play in cases of litigation. I was in a similar situation regarding legal action against a GP (Doctor, not a Guinea Pig !!). I won the case in the end, but it was a tricky time.

As well as monetary compensation I would press for enforced re-training of the Vet responsible, if said Vet is not actually struck off. The Vet should not be permitted to work unsupervised until the re-training has been completed and the Vet should be re-assessed at regular intervals for 5 years after. That is the very least I would accept as settlement.

Good luck.

So pleased your little lad is doing ok, he is an amazing bun. Glad everything else is progressing ok with claim. Sending healing vibes for your eyes Harvey xxxxxx

I've just read your other thread from start to finish, words cannot describe how I felt reading what poor Harvey had to go through, and he's such a trooper (obviously with a lot of TLC from his human), to pull through the way he did.

I wish you every success in this case to fight against the awful treatment he received from a professional x

Good luck with the complaint, as others have said I really wouldn't post anything you get sent about this case until its been fully resolved

Hi everyone, thanks so much and thanks for the heads up.. I didn't even give the public forum a second thought but will make sure I won't get accused of anything & of course keep you updated on how I'm getting on.

Thanks everyone, he really is my little trooper and after everything he's such a little sweetie!! He's off to the vets tomorrow for a check up on his eyes.. So fingers & toes are crossed!! :) xxx
