Single bunnies

clarebear

Mama Doe
We lost Bungee' s partner Bo last month :( Currently she is still indoors with us, as we brought them both in when Bo was poorly. Now I don't know whether to put her back outside in her hutch and run or keep her indoors. We are not sure about getting another bunny at the moment. Would she be lonely outside on her own, or would she prefer it? I wish she could tell me!

If a rabbit has always been an indoor rabbit then I always advise people to keep them as indoor rabbits. If you were to change her to outdoors you would need to ensure she was moved out there when its warmer so that she can adjust and grow in a winter coat for when it gets gradually colder as the year goes on.

If your girl is still young and healthy then getting her another partner would be an excellent idea. Rabbits really do need other rabbits. She would most likely accept another rabbit, although I have heard of cases of it not working. Rescues often help owners out with new bonds.

I'm sorry you lost Bo x

Thank you. Bungee has only ever been an outdoor bunny, but she has settled in well indoors. I'm tempted to keep her in so she has us for company. I know it's not the same as another bunny. I also rather like having her indoors, as I only work a couple of days a week, so she is lovely company for me! I just wonder if she would rather be back outside.
I'm not sure we are ready for another bunny yet after losing Bo this year and Bramble last year.
Strangely they were both bonded with Bungee and they both got poorly. I think she does have a tendency to stress her men out! It's another reason I am reluctant to get another bunny.

i would never put a single bunny outside as i do think it's unfair and would be very lonely. another bunny is of course the best answer but if you don't feel ready then inside with humans for company is the next best thing for the time being :)

Can't you put her outside during the day. Doughnut loves it outside in her run but she's always happy to come in after a few hours. She's always been indoors though. I've always wondered about her being on her own but because she's been so ill my specialist said she is probably better on her own as another bunny may dominate her because she's very friendly and sweet natured and he said she looks as me as her friend! I think most rabbits probably would love company but she's never known any different and some may prefer to be on their own. On here some people have got other bunnies when one has died but some of their rabbits have seemed happy on their own so they've left them on their own. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, depends on how the bunny is.

I would always keep a lone bunny indoors though as I do think they would be lonely on their own outside, but that's just my views. Also when people have bought their rabbits indoors not many have put them back outside as you get a lot more interaction.

Bungee does go outside for a hop around the patio or on the grass. I think I would feel really guilty putting her outside on her own. I also feel guilty though as Simon built the most amazing hutch and run combo!

She can always make use of the lovely hutch and run during the day when the weather is nice. She'd be getting the best of both worlds. Inside with her 'humans' and time outside in the sunshine.

You could all go out in that in the Summer and have a picnic :D

I can fully understand that you may not want to take on any more Rabbits. If that is the case then I'd keep Bungee as a House Bunny

I did think about giving Bungee the house and Simon and I could live in the hutch! ;)
I do love having her inside. I'm just having my lunch and she came up to me as if to say 'Can I have some too!' She's had a couple of treats and gone back to sleep.
