My specialist is giving a talk on gut statis- Any questions?

Elena told me about it, it's to do with RAW, so on Sunday I'm over at the specialists vet for chats with bunny owners and the nurses then an hour later he's speaking and answering any questions.

I'm excited and also may meet up with a fellow RUer. Thinking of questions I wish to ask him. Anyone want to know anything?! May ask how rabbits know how to beg, is it instinct because they look so cute.

Is this at Trinity's?

I am sure Mark's talk will be really interesting. Can I be cheeky and suggest asking him about his thoughts on giving SQ fluids even in cases of 'mild' GI tract slow down ?

Also, what are his thoughts on the choice of prokinetic ? Metoclopromide and Ranitidine or just Cisipride ?

One more Why do some Vets seem to give a one off shot of Baytril 'just in case' when treating a Rabbit with gut stasis who is showing no clinical signs of having a bacterial infection ? Does the risk of abx resistance not out weigh any potential benefits ?

Eep , I have loads more questions I'd love to ask him regarding Gut Stasis but I'd better shut up now !!

Hope you will have time to update us about the talk xx

Yes are you coming, we can meet up too. It starts at 1 where you chat to the nurses and probably Mark then he is talking on gut statis and taking questions. Think it will be interesting.

Oooo yes - I will be there - hopefully! It sounds great :D

These are really good questions - and in the case of the SQ fluids in cases of mild GI tract - I know they do do it, as I have two buns have it now and they were not badly in stasis - if at all - just showing signs/have a paranoid mummy - and it definitely perked them up no end. Would be interesting though to get Marks thoughts about it.

I'm sure that between CPayne and I - and any other RU'ers going - we can ask any questions you have - the answers will benefit all of us on RU and those people attending.

Very excited about this now - I hate Stasis with a passion - it's just awful for the buns and I feel so helpless when they have it - having more knowledge will be such a big help.

OK I'll type these questions up and ask him. He's never given Doughnut Baytril when she's had gut trouble so he may say he doesn't lol! He's really good at answering questions, I've always had lots to ask him and he's happy to answer them. Think the talk will go on for ages as since he's so knowledgeable it's great to get all the answers. I'm going to ask him about Doughnut's zantac dosage. I've put her down to 0.3 metaclop and she's good on that but haven't reduced the zantac but will see if he thinks it's worth it.

I will certainly update and take a pen and paper. Maybe I'll get Elena and Fellie to ask some questions too :). Let me know any others. I may ask at what point does he recommend bringing the rabbit in for treatment. Is it after 6 hours of not eating/drinking or longer or as soon as you notice!

We'll have to let each other know what we're wearing so we recognise each other! Although we'll be the one dominating the talk with questions

Poor Mark - he doesn't know what he's let himself in for:lol:

Just spoken with the Hubby - he's really keen for it as well so will definitely be there.

You can't miss me - I wear plastic white framed specs - and will be carrying a small red handbag :D

Just thought of another one. I know a lot of people on here use pineapple juice to help with "hairballs". I was told by a specialist not to give pineapple juice due to it's sugar content and it doesn't work. Anyone else got any questions where people are divided on?

This sounds absolutely brilliant :thumb:

I hope you get the time afterwards to give us all a little update. Mark is an amazing vet, and my own vet often consults with him!

This is what I look like, not the best photo but you get the idea.

I think lots of vets call him, I'm surprised how he's got time to fit everyone in!

His input on here was invaluable but obviously he's far too busy to have kept that up any longer. I think he takes a peek from time to time though ;)

Yes there was talk about webinars which I think everyone would be keen on. I may ask him if he can give talks on various subjects every so often even if it isn't rabbit awareness week, what do you think? I may be helped outside and the door firmly locked.

Wow, that would be amazing

I think it'd be a great idea. But he may just not have the time to do it. If he did do it I think there should be a fee payable- ie he could not be expected to do it for nowt !

Poor chap, now he's got a load of mad Rabbit woman trying to bulldozer him into something
