Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sneezing bunny and runny nose.

My friends daughter has just messaged me. Her bunny has started sneezing and has a runny nose. I've asked if she's changed bedding or anything, she's moved the bun out of the kitchenette into the living room.apart from that no change. They live in Spain and it's getting quite warm now. I've told her it sounds like the snuffles and a vet visit is needed,am I right? Xx

I think it's best if a vet looks at her rabbit and decides if anything needs to be done sooner rather than later. You can also try to keep him cool and minimise air allergens, but if treatment is needed, I believe it's best to start now. There's then the best chance of nipping anything in the bud.

Hi Karen

Long time no 'see'. I hope you are all well. I think you have given exactly the right advice to your friend's daughter. It may be that Bunny has developed a respiratory tract infection, but of course it could be an allergic rhinitis. An examination by a Vet should help obtain a diagnosis and they most appropriate treatment. Hopefully Bunny will soon be on the mend xx
