Advice, Help, Vibes can't decide the best Title

Hi as some of you may be aware I have a 1year old mini Rex with Nasal Fungal Disease. Nasal Fungal what you may ask, Quite  that's what my vet & I both thought when Bonbon's test result came back. Well vet consulted an expert at the RCVS who advised Bonbon should be nebulised 2-3times a day using F10 disinfectant, antibiotics (Marbocyl) & metacam 0.5ml. So this is what happens everyday.
Unfortunately the tube running from nebuliser split & I didn't realise straight away until Bonbon's breathing& sneezing got worse & then it took a week for new tube to be delivered. His breathing was awful on Easter Tues he was at the vet again though it seemed as though he had improved. The vet doubled his Marbocyl but said his lungs were clear
Today he's bad again, got his nose pointing in the air & sounds awful.
I just don't know where to turn for help as no one has heard of Nasal Fungal Disease, there's no research available, nothing on the internet etc. I was going to book an appt for him at a different vet to get a 2nd opinion but rabbit expert (Guy Carter) is on hols for a couple of weeks. I get the impression my current vet is just relying on what the RCVS vet advised him, meanwhile my darling bun struggles.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any herbal remedies for upper respiratory problems?

I've emailed the RWA for a name/names of rabbit savvy vets in & around Watford.

Anyone in Herts recommend their vet?
J&R I've sent you a pm

Also sending lots of vibes

Your phrase about "his nose pointing in the air" sounds like something I've heard before and is kind of a red flag in my brain
I don't know enough to be confident in saying this and don't want to over worry you if I'm wrong but i think i heard it in the context of it means the bunnies trying to breathe through its mouth which bunnies really don't do and means the bunny needs a vet super urgently

OH! I think you should phone your vet and tell them that the bunny is breathing with his nose pointing in the air 'cos vets know more than me and if it is super urgent they will tell you
And if it's not, you can tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. But that's better than me not saying anything 'cos I'm not sure.

hugs and vibes

Dumblepaws you are correct in that it means breathing is a problem. Thankfully he is still nose breathing & I did mention it to my vet. My surgery is closed & Medivet only have a student vet at night & I have no confidence in them as I hold them responsible for the death of my mini lop & was less than impressed with their treatment of Snowy my nethie who died there last year. The area where they keep the animals is very busy & very loud. My poor bun died in fear.

Has he had any x-rays taken? Nose pointing in the air can also be a sign of heart failure/fluid around the heart/on the lungs. Is bunny trying to raise their front end up, like trying to put their front feet on a higher surface, for instance? Personally it sounds to me as if he needs to see a vet tonight - is there anywhere else you can try as you say you don't have confidence in the usual one? Best of luck xx

Bonbon seems to have picked up again after his 3rd nebulisation. His head is lower & he's just given me kisses.
I feel some relief & will check him hourly through the night. Vet appt 1st thing in morning, but I'm still looking for an expert vet.

Hi Santa. I wanted X-rays taken but vet checked his heart & lungs & they were perfectly clear, the only noise was coming from Bonbon's nose. His feet have stayed firmly on the ground it was only his head that was raised. Have you heard of Marbocyl? I don't know of any other bun that is on that antibiotic

I've just read Jane's thread. It could be the blasted (hope I'm allowed to say that) pollution that's set him back. I'm not far from London

The Textbook of Rabbit Medicine says that Marbofloxin (Marbocyl, Vetoquinol) is a Fluoroquinolone drug like (but not the same as) Enrofloxacin (aka Baytril)
It's a Bactericidal with enhanced activity against gram negative bacteria compared to Enrofloxacin, and it's highly lipophilic, giving high concerntation in soft tissues, urogenital tract and skin.
It's a newer Fluoroquinolone with a broad spectrum of activity against many bacteria and mycoplasmas. It's Bactericidal and its effect is concentration dependent which allows pulse dosing regimens to be effective. Its use should be restricted to those infections where there is confirmed susceptibility and other antibiotics ar unlikely to be effective.

Also it has a paragraph on fungal respiratory diseases but nothing on how to treat them - oh no wait it mentions aspergillosis in that paragraph and then has it in a later table and says treatment itraconazole, terbinafine. I don't really understand any of those words though.

Thanks dumblepaws. As I said I'm my 1st post vet has doubled Bonbon's intake to 1tablet daily but he only started that dosage on Tues so it probably just needs time to take effect. I'm the sort of person that like to know the ins & outs of anything that makes my animals or humans I care about ill. It's so frustrating that I can't find anything out as no research has been done on rabbits. All the RCVS expert could say is that it's difficult to treat, humph. Bonbon was only diagnosed because I wanted his mucus tested to find out if Baytril would have any effect on his sneezing. One of my bridge buns pipkin was treated for a good 6 months with Baytril before tests found out the Baytril was of no use but by then the pastuerella had taken hold & I had to inject her daily. I didn't want the same thing happening again.

Contact cambridge vet group ask for iain cope. He is a soecialist exotics and rabbit vet. He is in this saturday morning on,y from 8.30. Be prepared to drive as soon as get appt. phone 01223 249331.

Tell them urgent as bun having to lift nose to breathe. They are on south side cambridge so you go in off m11 junction making it relatively easy from south west.

I took Bonbon to Medivet not long after I posted thanking Parsnipbun. His breathing worsened & I couldn't chance waiting
any longer & figured any vet was better than none because at least they have oxygen they can give him. I'm glad I did. There was a decent vet there who was waiting outside for us to arrive & had the oxygen mask ready & waiting. Bonbon has pneumonia, how bad I don't know, vet said he would allow Bonbon's breathing to stabilise & then he'd administer a mild sedative & X-ray his lungs. I asked that they ring me if he worsened so I could be with him no matter what the time. I did have a scary phone call about 30 mins after getting home but vet was ringing to ask how I got Bonbon's diagnosis.

You must be so worried, sounds like Bonbon is definitely in the right place. Loads of vibes being sent x
