Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My bunny is okey, but not stable on his balance

Hello
I have dwarf rabbit for 2months now, he was all fine so far, playful, good movements, eating well, but yesterday i notice that his stability is off, he was like drunk rabbit, even though his movement and jumping was fine, he sometimes lose balance for few seconds, when i try push him left or right he couldnt sustain himself like before. So i take him to vet, said it was little bit flu and give some vitamins for nerve system. Today he is still the same, probably need some time to strenghten himself but dunno, maybe someone had same experience and can suggest me something. No it doesnt have head tilt, and vet checked his ears without finding any problems there.

It could be e cuniculi with or without head tilt. That causes problems with balance, and I believe ear problems can't always be diagnosed just by looking at the ears, an X-ray would be needed (I don't have experience with ear issues but have plenty with e cuniculi)
You need to take your rabbit back to the vet, he needs metacam and a wormer such as panacur or lapizole and further investigation to get to the root of the issue. I wouldn't push him anymore to test his balance, he could be really dizzy. He needs to be somewhere safe where he can't hurt himself if he falls.
Good luck and lots of vibes to your rabbit.

Are you in the UK ?

The symptoms you are describing could be related to a protozoal parasitic infection-Encephalitozoon Cuniculi, as *Bex* mentioned.

They could also be the result of a bacterial middle ear infection (which cannot always be seen by just looking into the ears with an otoscope) or a metabolic disorder. I think you need to get him back to a Vet, one who is experienced specifically in treating Rabbits. not all Vets are.

okey, vet told me to wait few days to see if he is getting better or not, he is improving but guess i wait till monday if he is still like this i take him to specialized veterinarian. They don't work over weekends :(

Welcome to the Forum

Rabbits don't get 'flu' as such ... I think your rabbit needs further treatment along the lines of Panacur (for the parasite E.C.), Metacam (to prevent further inflammation in the brain and for pain relief) and also antibiotic for a possible ear infection.

Where are you based? Is there another vet in your area who might be perhaps more used to treating rabbits and their illnesses?

I assume that you are not in the UK then ?

Nope, i am from Croatia, i just sign here coz i love my rabbit, and seen that this forum really have much informations about rabbits. There is vet amulance which works 0-24h but they said that they can't help much. He is getting better so i hope it will continue to improve. If i don't see improvements over a weekend or worse i will take him to ambulance, but either i will get him to specilized vet monday morning for better scan of my rabbit condition. ty for help, i will update on news

We sometimes forget how lucky we are in the UK in that in general we can access a Vet 24/7 every day of the year. It sounds as though you have do all you can so far to try to help your Rabbit. I do hope that the improvement will continue and that you can see the specialist Vet on Monday xx

I hope your bunny begins to feel much better soon x

He is quite stable now like nearly no balance problems at all, but he scratched his eye for some reason and cut little outer eyelid, movements and behavior is same as week ago...
seems fine to me except little eyelid problem. I think i panic too much^^

Well I hope he will remain OK now. I'd keep a close watch on his scratched eyelid to make sure it does not start to look infected or that his actual eye does not start to produce a white discharge which might indicate that he has scratched the eyeball itself.

You wouldn't be on RU if you didn't panic more than a little :D. We care about our rabbits here as you can see :thumb:
Hope your weekend goes OK

No more balance problems now, but he scratches his eyes sometimes and it looks like weepy eye( was red eyelid too). I try to heal him with chamomile and it helped him but not fully, so i think i will take him to vet tomorrow for expert help. On internet there is 100 diferent opinions :D from teeth problems ,jaw, bacteria, to virus problems , so i guess i need to check with vet for better help

Nothing beats having someone actually in the same room as your rabbit, with expertise, to check up on all your worries.

Good luck tomorrow! :D
