  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Yes it will keep for 4 more days.

Strictly speaking you should keep it cool but ideally not in the fridge.

Wait is it no good after 10 days!?

Yes, it can't be used after 10 days. One thing I did was carefully, as if I was a scientist- divide the bottle of powder into two equal parts of powder. Then reconstitute 1/2 at a time to make it last longer.

Its worth using it though, my rabbit had the worst respiratory infection with white snot and Baytril did not work, and Azithromycin/zithromax totally cured him.

I don't think it suddenly stops working on day 11 but it will start to lose effectiveness.

Yep,
Jack's Jane is correct.
When my bunny was on Zithromax for a long period, it got expensive to keep throwing out the meds when 2/3 were left in the bottle.
If you need it long term, you may be able to find a pharmacy to compound it in an almond oil base using special equipment so it would have a longer shelf life.
