  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dental booked tomorrow - quick question

I'm taking Fergie in for his dental at 8am tomorrow, but he's due his recovery food/metacam/gut stimulant at about 6:30am.

I was just going to give him them all as normal and just tell the vet what he's had and at what time - don't really want to leave him without in case he's not operated on til later.

Do you think this would be the best thing to do? Or should I just give him his recovery food? I think they'll give him pain relief and gut stimulants after the dental as routine but don't know if itd be better for me to give him them when he's due them

Bit stuck for what to do!

I always give meds when due and make sure the vets know so they can adjust what they give and when.

I hope all goes well :)

Just had a phone call off the vets - his dental is done and he's come round really well (hay and veg nibbling and everything!) :) going to get him at 4

But we're still on a weeks metacam and 3 days gut stimulants, and syringe feeding 2x daily if he's still not eating quite as much! Hoping this is the end of it now :)

Its very encouraging to hear that he has already started to eat a little for himself. I hope he will now make a good recovery xx

He's home!!!!! He's eaten some hay but still not really interested in pellets/greens so syringe feeding twice a day on vets advice

So glad he's home and doesn't seem too traumatised :)
