Vibes please

He's so flat and breathing slowly. He's staying in for sub cut fluids which he desperately needs and nursing overnight.

He's my big doofus of a boy and I'm so scared he's not going to come home. He was fine yesterday, and so so flat today. It's like he's not there.

Hes much the same today. He's just sitting, he wont eat a thing and he wont even swallow the syringe recovery food. He looks miserable and uncomfortable and wobbly on his feet.

The vets is saying they don't know what it is. Ive suggested things but I think they are just humouring me. I think they think he's had it and are just waiting out the clock.

Until now I have always trusted my vet but I've got doubts now and I feel completely helpless - everything I've asked for or suggested has been gently brushed aside.

I feel totally lost about what to do and i think my darling boy is going to slip away.

Is there another vet locally? It's so frustrating when you feel powerless. :(

Not one that I trust any more than the current vet, less probably. The vets I use are well regarded, and I don't want to move him as I think that might just finish him off. Its all happened so quickly, he's such a lovely boy and in many ways he's already gone.

I'm so sorry that your boy is poorly. It is dreadful when you feel powerless to help them. Sending lots of vibes. xx

What diagnostics have they done so far Jez? When they lose their swallow reflex it is usually dire but I'd still keep trying for him. Fluids would be a must of course and pain relief but only after seeing if his organs are faltering so that the right pain relief can be chosen. I have had a rabbit that lost it's swallow come back from the brink. Floppy rabbit syndrome has caused two rabbits I've nursed from babies to look as if they were about to leave and by giving potassium by syringe (pro-c has potassium) it can have remarkable results in just a few days. Have they considered that?

Are you at work? Or could he come home and be nursed there in familiar surroundings? Have they done bloods or xrays to see what might be going on? I feel helpless on your behalf.

I'm so sorry your boy is ill and that the vets are being unhelpful. Adding vibes for him.

This is how I felt when my Lance was sick and my vets basically didn't know what else to do and left him to die at home with me. I urge u to find another vet quick even if it means driving an hour or two to get a specialist. I trusted my vet and in the end it meant loosing Lance and a head full of regrets and guilt. I now drive 90 mins to go to a specialist for my other 3. Vibes for ur poor man x
