Rabbit savvy vets nottingham

little-laura

Wise Old Thumper
The usual site that shows rabbit savvy vets dsnt have any for notts

I have been using vets4pets in mapperly just for minor things

I am really unhappy with them as my rats were very ill they managed their treatment poorly and charge me through the teeth per rat... I said I wanted stronger meds than what they were giving as they hadn't worked in the past and the other meds had but they refused to move on to them until they had two doses of the meds I knew wouldn't work each dose cost £30 per rat on top of the appointment charges and follow up charges which were only £2 per rat less...

Spoke to a vet from Manchester on the phone who said the meds they gave wouldn't touch what they had and hey should have listened to me... And he thought them charging per rat for consults was cruel due to the number of appointments needed and the fact they had the same thing...

:(

The rats passed away

I just don't know any good vets here

I think Worksop is classed as Nottinghamshire? If so I can highly recommend Wildbore where I take my bunnies. They're fantastic and I have no complaints whatsoever with them. In the past 9 months all 6 of my bunnies have been in and out due to one thing or another and they're been brilliant.

There is a vet on Gregory Boulevard that is supposed to be good, I think the vet was called Erica, a rescue near there recommended them. I think Honeybunnies sometimes use Vets4Pets at Gamston. I have also been told there is a good vet near Nottingham prison and I know of a good vet in Hucknall.

If the recommended ones aren't close enough, you could ring the rwaf and they have a list :thumb:

I've been going there for over 10 years now. They have always been excellent with my rabbits and I have thrown some difficult challenges at them over the years. Worksop is north Notts, I don't know whereabouts you are located in Nottinghamshire LittleLaura, but I guess it would be about an hours drive from Nottingham city.

Erica is no longer at Gregory Boulevard she has moved to Radcliffe-on-Trent. I use to use mapperly v4p's and found liz very good but have since moved to companion care in netherfield pah and have no complaints they do listen to you there and there's also orchard vets i think its call in

RACR use this vet

I use Castle Vets on Castle Boulevard: RWAF 'registered' and head dude is a rabbit specialist; his wife ain't bad with them either :) They have a 'rabbit' section on their website. Vet nurses can be a bit clueless ('give him an extra carrot' ;P) but lovely people!

ETA I've got a recent (August) email list from RWAF, I'll try and find it and post back tomorrow.

Sorry, got distracted

Castle Vet Centre, 61-61 Castle Boulevard, Lenton NG7 1FD
Davison Vet Surgeons, 63-65 Ilkeston Road, Radford NG7 3GR
Meadowbank Veterinary Surgery, Hillbank House, Commonside, Selston NG16 6FJ
Orchard Vet Centre Ltd, 105 Perry Road Sherwood NG5 3AD
Vets4pets Worksop, 47-49 Carlton Road S80 1PD
Wildbore Vet Group, Turner Road Worksop S81 7AE

Like I said, that was 'accurate' from the RWAF in August but we all know they're subject to change at any time and not inform the RWAF at all!

I use vets for pets in mapperley and have always found them very good. I went to companion care in netherfield pets at home and although I think jo there is excellent with cats I haven't found them quite so rabbit savvy if you go for anything other than the usual vaccinations.

At vets for pets in mapperley I have always used Liz and erica.

My mum goes on about the vets in Bingham but I haven't tried them with a rabbit as long car trips stress ruby a bit and at 6 years old I do get worried about her.

Orchard vets I think it's called, which are opposite sherwood prison cover the rspca, so may be more rabbit savvy. I did take my rspca bunny there for a check up but I'm not sure how savvy they are really as he went to see them for something quite simple

I do know there is a rabbit specialist in Leicestershire that companion care age me details of, I will see if I can find those for you.

Thanks for this info - we may be moving to this area (nearby anyway!) ourselves so this is really helpful.

Just to add, it's Wildbore who have done all the x rays and blood/poo/urine tests on Blueberry to try and solve the mystery illness, all in conjunction with a specialist and he's also off for an ultrasound on his heart on Thursday under the specialists supervision and a cardiologist. I cannot praise them enough! I've had rabbits admitted OOH and dental/stasis issues done, routine spays and vaccinations, rabbits hospitalised and no complaints at all. They're a 40 minute drive away from me so even routine drop off/collection of bunnies takes a good two hours in total, but it's totally worth it for the peace of mind I have knowing they're always there for my bunnies no matter what.

Thanks so much. I was going to pm you actually as I'm not miles away from Sheffield ( I work in Chesterfield) as am not really happy with any of the vets round here! Hope Blueberry is going on OK! I have been following his story.

(Sorry to the OP for thread-stealing!)

My dad lives and works on Chesterfield too! I'm not sure how to get to Wildbore from Chesterfield as I've never had to, oddly enough  but I'm sure it doesn't make a lot of difference time/distance wise. Feel free to PM me anytime if you want/need to ask anything :thumb:

Thanks for following Blueberry's story too  it's wonder to know people are rooting for us  I'll do a mini update on his thread now for you and to avoid hijacking this thread any further :lol:

ooo that would be great if you could incase of a emergency

think Ill check out castle its near mothercare which is a *** to get to via public transport which I can only do with jono anyway due to not being able to take noah and the buns on my own

so Ill be getting a lift from the in laws making it only a 10 min journey

I live just outside notts city centre very close to mapperley vets4pets but i lost faith in them because of the treatment with the rats

We used the Netherfield vets4pets (or may be companion care?) which is inside Pets at Home at the retail park, i was quite impressed with them  but we only used them for Jasper's neutering and checkups.

I use my local Vets 4 Pets but it's a bit far :D

I've just seen this bumped to the top. Sorry I never got back to you with those specialist details Laura. The vets is called chine house, it's somewhere near Loughborough. And the specialist is Craig hunt.

I still like the mapperley vets for pets. I received an excellent service from Liz for Ruby recently. I hear Gamston gets for pets used to be good for bunnies but that was a few years ago.

I think the one on Perry road may be a bit difficult for you with public transport. Castle vets (if I am thinking of the right one) is an easy walk from the city centre along castle boulevard. I used to walk past it regularly on work lunch breaks

Indeed: Castle Vets is opposite the road up past the Castle that leads to the Park. Davisons seems alright: Notts Nibblers used it for Aboleth's spay and eye removal and Castle Vets said that was a difficult (easy to go wrong) procedure. Perry Road isn't on a good bus route, it's between the Yellow and Brown NCT routes, but wouldn't be too bad (i.e. not too costly) with a taxi.

It's a shame the buses all mostly go city centre and out, not round and about!

Yes castle is the one I used to walk past on my lunch time wandering a to a nice sandwich shop on castle boulevard. It's not too bad from the city centre. It's not that close to mothercare though. I know the maroon buses go past it and I think the orange ones, but I might be wrong. It's about a 10/15 minute walk from the market square.

I think there is also a Davison vet in west bridgford. Two buses though which is annoying but there are plenty of buses that go out that way

The Maroons stopped running a few years ago (just after the tramworks started): the Skylink and Y5 are the only ones to go past now :)
