  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rabbit savvy vet in the Chester area - recs please

Can anyone recommend a good rabbit vet in the Chester area please? I have approached the Rabbit Welfare Association and they were only able to give me details of vets in Stockport, Macclesfield and Northwich - all of which are between 20 to 40 miles away. I don't really want to put my rabbit through that length of car journey, plus if there was ever an emergency I'm scared that it would take too long to get help.

I've seen mention of Chester Gates vets on the forum, but when I looked them up they seem to be a referral hospital only and not a vet practice that would take regulars.

So do you lovely folks on RU have any recommendations please?

Thanks :D

Molly varga is that way I think

Absolutely - if it's near to you, I would register here in a heartbeat:

Molly is one of the most qualified bunny vets in the country, she teaches other vets and runs seminars and sessions for vets and owners. If it's nearby, I'd definitely recommend her, it looks as if they see normal regular clients and not just referrals - although I would imagine they also take referrals. It may well be that this is the one near Northwich you mentioned above as being too far, though!

Molly may be a bit far away from you. She is from me.

I use Cranmore (next to Chestergates hospital which is their out of hours too). Rob is the chap to ask for; he's a bunny owner and pretty savvy. He's prepared to do his research too and helped Hector with his tummy troubles well. He hit on the same treatment Thumps identified to me on here so I felt really happy with him. The others there are lovely too but less bunny orientated. They used to have two others who have left sadly.
