Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Advice about Rolo please

Roly Poly

Warren Veteran
Rolo seems like he is back to usual self. He ate everything by himself yesterday (except hay of course which I always have to feed him anyway!). This morning he went straight to his breakfast when I put it down, he hasn't eaten it all yet but that's not unusual.

His output is normal, he's drinking and he appears happy and content.

I really don't know what to do about the appointment I have with the specialist vet tomorrow.

Rolo hates going in the car, hates being handled and gets incredibly streessed at the vets and I'm worried that taking him tomorrow will cause him more harm than good.

As he's back to normal, do I leave well alone and hope that this was just a one off incident? He had a period of almost a week last summer after a dental when he didn't want to eat and would only do so if I hand fed him.

Any advice please as I'm really worried and confused and don't have anyone else I can talk this through with.

Thanks xx

Could you phone them for advice and see what they say ? I know how you feel, my cat gets upset for days after a visit. Glad Rolo is doing so much better bless him x

The specialist isn't there until tomorrow and to be honest I've lost faith in the other vets there. I saw three different ones last week (all new to me) and none of them really knew much about rabbits. If you saw my other post, one of them actually thought he was a girl!

I'm so disappointed in them as previously I've always felt confident in what they've said and done, but there seems to be a lot of new, young vets at the practice now.

I don't want to put him through any unneccesary trauma when he seems fine.

A difficult decision for you. If it was Spenser I would take him, but Spenser doesn't get traumatised by vet trips (he just sulks afterwards). You know Rolo best, and will do what is right for him.

Do the Vets do home Visits ?

No sadly they don't.

Rolo has now demolished his breakfast, chewed on a hay stick, eaten plantain and dandelion and has been drinking and done lots of pooping!

He really seems to be back to normal, I just wish I knew what to do. If I cancel tomorrow's appointment, I can book again next Wednesday if I feel the need.

If it were me, I would rebook for next Wednesday. It's hard to foretell what may happen, but that's what I would do.

Oh that's a shame. Have you seen the Specialist Vet before ? I think I would leave a message requesting he/she gives you a call tomorrow, preferably before he/she starts consults. He/she will be able to read Rolo's clinical records about his recent problems, especially about the supposed 'mass' one of the other Vet's could feel. The Specialist may suggest a 'watch and wait' for now. Or he/she might say that Rolo really needs to be examined again to see if there is an 'abnormal mass' or if what the other Vet thought she could feel was infact an impaction which has now broken down and passed. The latter sounds to be the most likely if Rolo is now completely back to normal in all respects.

This sounds exactly like Ludo, and he's also awful to take to the vet.

Is Rolo moulting at the moment?

As Rolo seems to be back to his normal self I wouldn't stress him out by another Vets visit tomorrow but book him in for next week :thumb:
