Adopting some rabbits but what to house them in

Daniel

Alpha Buck
Hi all, at some point this year my wife and i are planning on adopting a pair or a trio of rabbits from Freshfields Animal Rescue in Liverpool.

In my garden I have the space for a large enclosure but deciding on what to do is the problem. I have an area of 5m long (16.4ft) by 3m (9.8ft) wide to play with. However I don’t think I’ll have something 16ft long, maybe around 12ft by 6 or 9ft.

It’s going to be some sort of walk in enclosure and I am here to see if anyone has any idea what I could do with the space.

Any ideas?

I would do a shed and aviary run, and fill the space with that. I'm sure they will love the space. My run is 17ftx10ft and they use all of it for amazing binkies :thumb:

If I was starting from scratch and had your skills and that space I'd probably go for a shed type shed up one end and a soil bank the other. So heavy duty mesh the floor, blockwork a corner to support the soil and then aviary over - bit like those greenhouses that sit on a brick wall. Maybe incorporate the sleeping quarters into even if you can work out access.

Roof would be nice, maybe some perspex or double glazing sections for extra shelter/good viewing... go a bit crazy :D

I would love to do some brick work and ground work for it but sadly this house is rented so can’t do anything permanent.

I’m stuck between 3 types of housing, a shed and walk in run, a kennel with walk in run or a complete new step up with the whole front being mesh and the rest solid panels with some sort of house and lots of shelves, ramps and places to hide and jump on.

I was thinking of something along the lines of these two below but bigger:

and this but bigger

But then again this shed looks great

So i have no idea :?

If you had a cross between 2 and 3 but bigger. A larger area for run.... That would look good...

I must admit, I would love a shed and aviary type layout with full height for ease of cleaning etc...

Good luck....

I do like that shed - the fact it's got big windows for light, but it closes up for warmth and the lookout platform is definitely something to incorporate. I'd probably go for steps down rather than a ramp.

Being able to see them is the other consideration - what shape would give you a good view from the house windows?

As I had to move house this was put on hold but now i am looking for some rabbits to join our family.

I maybe housing them in this bespoke shed i built for a customer who for personal reasons can not take the order anymore.
It's not been sold due to the high price and with the fact i am moving to another unit again i may as well use it myself.

I'll be making a few changes to it. i'm going to make both the runs walk in ones and create a shelf, ramp and some sort of house inside the shed for the rabbits to play in.

OMG that is utterly awesome. What lucky rabbits!!! You will have such fun watching them in there. They can be a great advert for you skills.

I really like the one you made, what are the dimensions and what would something like that cost, please? Feel free to pm if you wish x

I'll send you a message.

The only downside to yours is the rabbits can't get up a speed as the shed is in the middle -.

As i plan to create a walk in run instead of the 3ft run i may make it longer than 6ft. So it could be 9x4ft etc.
