Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Small Creamy clear worm in poo.

Mini-lop

Young Bun
Hi,
Just saw one in our house bunns poo!
Seemed to be dying fairly quickly in the air?

I presume it will be a pin worm but can humans catch them?
Just a little worried as we have a young lad (7)

The bun is only 14 weeks, so was a bit of a shock.

Any recommendations on what we can do with vets closed at the moment?

Should we treat the bunny any differently or are we OK and cat get cross infection

From what I have read it looks like they are species specific so cant be caught by humans as we have different pin worm and visa versa.
But would be nice for somone to confirm that on here as we have no vets until Saturday!

You can treat these pinworms using Panacur which you can obtain through the vet or buy yourself. The vet can give you the accurate dosage per weight of bunny.

They usually affect rabbits and cattle, but there have been cases of cross transmission, so it's wise to treat as soon as possible, especially with a young child around.
