  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Off to the vet with Moley again.

Rab-bit

Alpha Buck
Last night he was a bit twitchy on the left side face and shaking his ear. Then he tried to eat a piece of hay and his head fell to the left side and he couldn't eat it. My immediate reaction was head tilt and ran to get the Panacur. After sitting with him a little longer and scratching his ear for him i suspect it's either something in his ear or his back molars. I gave him some pellets which he had no problem eating but he can't lift his ear and he keeps twitching. :( he always likes to cause me worry and we have no money left on the insurance .. Not that that matters.
He seems miserable this morning not lifting his ear and still twitching he came out for his breakfast which I am about to give them ... Hoping it's just something in his ear. Please could we have vibes. Thanks RU.

Moley!!!! Get well soon handsome.

Hopefully it's something straight forward for you.

Thanks for the vibes. His ear was clear and his teeth were fine. As with all animals he acted ok, didn't twitch and held his ear up no problems. Got him home, he can't eat his hay and won't put his ear back up!
The vet also found a melanoma on his eye, thinks it is probably a cyst and won't cause him any problems.
Anyway the original problem is a mystery and we have some Baytril and Panacur to treat him with incase there is a deeper infection.

Thanks all I gave him dinner and he seems a bit more perky stayed with him until he ate hay and eventually he did ... Phew. He is still not right but he is better then this morning!

With the symptoms you've described and the all clear vet check, I think Baytril and Panacur are the best way forward.

Hope he feels 100% soon x

Thanks all, the vet asked me if I was happy with the treatment rather then telling me, but it seemed like the best solution, my only niggle was if I could do any damage to him giving him Baytril if nothing was infected?
Anyway Moley is doing much much better back to his old self again, no twitching or eating to oneside he is also holding his ear up normally.... I swear he just likes to scare me  or make me look like a crazy bunny hypercondriac.

Good to hear the lovely Moley is on the mend again (we need pictures to confirm of course :p)

I think being a crazy bunny hypochondriac goes with the territory of being a bunny space  my bunnies can't breathe at times for me hovering over them and pannicking they're poorly :lol:

As requested some photos of my little (big) monkey bun

Awww good to see your gorgeous face again Moley, I don't see enough of you.

Hehe I am usually too busy telling him off for scaring me to take a photo ;), he rarely sits still either but I will definitely try to post more.. Because I loves him sooo much.

He is one of my favourite RU bunnies so we (I) definitely need to see him more often

I've been thinking about Moley lately & wondering how he was doing. Sorry to hear about his strange episode, perhaps something was in his ear but it came out before he saw the vet & it was still a bit irritated? Glad he seems better now though. he's such a handsome bunny
