  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Question about metaclop (emeprid)

So I'm supposed to be giving 2ml of this to Apache 3x daily until he's pooing.

He's pooing now, but very little compared to his usual, ahem, 'output'.

Do I keep giving it until he's back to normal, or is it better to let his insides figure things out on their own? I don't want to set him back but I don't want to risk any side effects either.

I can phone the vet to check tomorrow hopefully but I always like to get RU's opinion too :)

I've usually been told to keep going with the meds until there output is normal, though my usual vet give Domperidone but I think the advice would be the same as its all about keeping it moving through.

I'd keep it going till he is normal. If he's been on it a while it would be best to reduce in stages too, as the gut needs time to adjust. It's a safe med so no reason to stop it prematurely if its not causing any issues.

Cheers, that was my instinct too but I suddenly got paranoid that it might be one of those things that's damaging over a long period of time. (It's only three days but I am cautious!)

Doughnut is on it long term, she's had it for a year now and I haven't seen any side effects.

keep on giving it I would I remember mabel when she had her dental the other month and vet said not to worry other emeprid causing any long term effects, if it was metacam then yes as that effects kidneys, but you should be fine with emeprid until everything is normal
