Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hello

I've read in a lot of places that infant drops for gas relief are effective in helping GI stasis and I Just wanted to have them on hand in case!

can anyone tell me what brand etc? are they safe??

thanks :)

Infacol can be obtained from the baby section of most supermarkets

As can Woodwards Gripe Water which is what I prefer to use.

The brand that most people use is INFACOL. It's colic drops for babies. You can give a 1 ml dose and repeat it every hour or so and it's extremely safe. I have never heard of any reported side effects.

The only down side is that it's fairly expensive

Personally I prefer woodwards gripe water as well. The one and only time I have ever seen maggots in a bunny litter tray was the morning after one of the bunnies had been having infacol the day before. It was only about April and it was first thing in the morning so it wasn't as if it was hot or anything, and because I was monitoring poo output I had been cleaning the tray twice a day, so I know they were 'fresh' overnight. I can only conclude that flies are unspeakably attracted to the sweet scent of infacol poo.

It's also worth mentioning that keeping things like this to hand are in no way a substitute for getting to a vet ASAP. They can be a useful adjunct to veterinary therapy or for administering while waiting to get to the vets, but I think you run the risk of doing more harm than good by just administering at home and seeing if bunny picks up, as bloat can be fatal very quickly (not that I'm suggesting you would do this, but for the benefit of anyone searching at a later date!)
