  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hello, sorry I don't have any experience of this but I'm sure someone will be along soon who will be able to give you some helpful advice. Please try not to panic because at the moment you don't actually know what it is and it might not be that bad. I wish the very best outcome for you and your bunny xx

I am sorry that Harry is not well. Without diagnostics it is not possible to say what the 'lump' may be. I think he will probably need to go back to the Vet tomorrow as he will need more medication. Perhaps then your Mum could ask the Vet if some diagnostics might be appropriate. Then you can all make an informed decision on what to do for Harry.

I'm sorry to hear your bunny is unwell. I would try not to panic until you've had xrays and further investigative tests carried out as you don't know for sure what it is. There's a good chance it could be operated on yet. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

My 6yr old bun developed a lump and it was a hernia, which was repaired easily by surgery.

Who has actually told you he has cancer?

i would advise finding an exotic/rabbit savvy vet (most normal vets practices only know the basics about rabbits unfortunately) - perhaps let us know where you are and someone can recommend a vet.

try not to worry just yet. it may not be cancer and you can still possibly have further testing done, and even an op if needed. six years old is only middle aged so age shouldn't be an issue for an op (not by a decent vet anyway)

My Beautiful boy has cancer

 Thank you for the messages The vet said to me today that that a operation is would not recommened as it is right beside Harry Insterines and he might not make it. All she did was when she found the lump she said its bad news its cancer which by this time I was in shock and in tears. since I got home and thought about I said to my husband there must be scans or blood test or even xray to find out more about this horrible lump it could be any:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry: thing xx

Definitely post a thread asking for a rabbit vet in your area, the difference between a standard vet and a rabbit specialist can literally be the difference between life and death, they are no more expensive just more experienced xx

Sorry to hear your rabbit is not well.

Without a proper diagnosis there is no way of knowing what the lump actually is.

Sending vibes for your rabbit.

That is absolutely shocking and disgusting the vet saying that, when she hasn't even run any very basic tests to ever start looking at what it could be, which is a number of things.

How awful her causing you all this upset and worry. So is she physic as well as a not very good vet, with zero people skills!!

I would make a compaint to the Practice Manager, when you no what is going on with your bun. Hope he feels better soon and you to.

Judith Brown, works in Newcastle at Firstvets Heaton surgery, and is a rabbit expert.
Hope this helps :thumb:

 Thank you all very much for your messages I will give Firstvets at ring and get an Appointment hopefully get an Judith Brown Harry and I are sending all our love to you all xx
