  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Snuffles??

I noticed that one of my rabbits had yellow around her nose. She didn't have any runny eyes and wasn't sneezing. I had given her sweet potato recently and have heard that stains the fur. She does have very tiny matts on the inside of her paws, but most of my rabbits have them. Could it possibly be snuffles? I don't want her to infect the other rabbits because I've heard that it's contagious. The yellowish color is kind of going away but she's a little damp under her nose. Should I take her to the vet, or is it not that serious? I have medicine I'm giving her and all my other rabbits that prevents and clears up snuffles. I'm hoping this helps. What do y'all think I should do? I'm really worried. I'm also feeding her last and washing my hands before I touch any of the other bunnies. She is still eating everything, but has been eating a lot more hay than normal. She's expecting a litter soon and I don't want them to get it either. What should I do?

This Rabbit, like the other one you have posted a thread about, needs Veterinary attention. Especially as she is pregnant. The symptoms you describe sound like 'Snuffles'

I assume the sweet potato was cooked. Raw sweet potato is toxic.

i am sure you mean well but there is so much to learn about rabbits. I am not sure if she should have any medication when pregnant (perhaps JJ will come back on) but either way it is best to consult your Vet. Also, check out any new foods to make sure they are safe. There's lots of info here or on the net.

thank you. I'm going to call the vet today.

Don't be too hard on yourself, I'm sure you're doing the best you can for your bunnies :) I got my first rabbit when I was 15 and really didn't have a clue what I was doing! RU taught me a LOT when I joined :)

I hope you manage to get your little darlings to a (bunny savvy) vet asap :)
