Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Shaking/Tremor?

Sky-O

Wise Old Thumper
I've just given Sunny some sub cut fluids (not much- just under 20mls in her scruff) and I've noticed that she is shaking, in a tremor like way, when she moves. She moves, shakes, and then stays still, and then the tremor settles. It's really weird.

Is that the fluids pressing on a nerve? Giving the fluids was exactly as it always has been for any bunny, I don't feel it went 'wrong' in anyway.

Or is it something more serious? she wasn't doing it at 4pm, but then she was acting fine then and now she's not, again. I didn't notice it earlier when I found her ill, but she wasn't making an effort to move much.

Any thoughts?

No, nothing new or out of the ordinary. The same meds she's been on since she started early this week (plus meds for dental abscess)- Baytril, Metronidazole, Tramadol, Metacam, Metaclop, Zantac and Infacol.

This is movement related- if it were fear or shock, then it would happen whatever she was doing, I would imagine. She's a resilient bunny, fear wise, as well.

Does it appear to be neurological ? Metronidazole can cause neurological side effects and these may be triggered/exacerbated if certain other drugs are given at the same time. Tramadol being one of them.

It's settled a bit and her fluid lump has gone, so I'm thinking, in some way, it pressed something?

She's been on the Metronidazole and Tramadol together for well over a month now, with no previous problems and has been getting so much better and doing so well- she went down at the star of the week and I think that was to do with having to stay with Hope for 48 hours at the vets, but she perked up and was brilliant again. Now she's gone down. Again. I'm feeling like we're missing something- although everytime this happens she sits with her back left leg funny (and she is an arthritisy bunny) so I'm wondering if she caught her leg somehow and that caused her pain.

Thank you for asking Jane. She's back to her normal perky self- I haven't shifted out of bed yet but as I type she's just had a thorough clean and has now pottered over (with no sign of yesterday's tremor) and stuck her face in the bag of ReadiGrass and is nomming merrily.
