Help now please U/D Digby's gone :o(

ripminnie

Wise Old Thumper
Got home from work at 5.30. Digby was breathing with his nose in the air. Not mouth breathing. Been sneezing blood on Daisy's head. Rushed him to vets. Not many options. Been bleeding from one nostril. Increased respiratory rate. No 24 hour care at my vets. OOH not an option, would rather PTS than take him there. We decided I would see how he is overnight and try to keep him comfortable, and speak again in morning. But he's not comfortable and can't eat, although he did try. Was fine at lunch time. Although been spluttery the last week or so. Should I PTS tonight???

which out of hours vets do you use? ashleigh vets have their own out of hours team now so maybe contact them and then decide? really hope he will be ok. x

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear this. I really can't advise but didn't want to read and run. Hope others can advise better x

How awful for you. Can it not be sorted? Have you had specialist advice?

If there isn't any options and he is in pain and then I put him to sleep. You will have an awful night and so will he.

i'm so sorry i can't offer any advice, i have no idea what would be best! if you would be happier using a different vets ooh service they can't refuse you just because you are registered elsewhere xxx

i feel for you because i know how bad the out of hours can be around here. just thought that the vets for pets out of hours in worsley (?) actually have some exotics vets apparently, but not sure of their names and when they work. maybe ask.

when i thought bisc might need out of hours care a while back, i did ask about ashleigh vets out of hours and was told they look after all species, the same as the actual practice does.

eta: i meant petmedics in worsley x

I would definitely try to contact an ooh vets recommended on here, best of luck to you, I really hope he makes it xx

Thank you everyone. Digby is still here. I actually decided that I would call the vet back and see if she would come out and put him to sleep. But when I rang they had already switched to their answer phone, 15 minutes before they closed
I had been thinking about what to do, and decided that there's no way I'm putting him through a stressful trip to Manchester, either tonight or tomorrow. He hates travelling. And I don't think he'd survive a GA. He isn't comfortable but he isn't mouth breathing. He tried to eat some parsley but I don't think he can eat and breathe at the same time :( I will stay with him tonight, and if he gets worse I'll have to take him somewhere :(
Jane, the vet just gave him his metacam dose and a large shot of antibiotics in case of infection.

I am so sorry to see this, :( no advice but sending hugs and vibes for both you and Digby. xxxxxxx

I am so sorry to read this. I have no advice, but I am thinking of you and Digby and I hope he can pull through. xx

Could you try steaming him like we do our faces?

I did that once with one of mine and put the towel over both our heads. He still was admitted the following day but at least gave him a more comfortable night and he was able to eat.

Really hope he is ok.
