Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Home healing until monday

Hey all. does anyone know wether i can give my bun emeraid and pedialyte? together? i had some leftover emeraid from her bout with pnuemonia 3 weeks ago. unfortunately we didnt have the money to get her to the vets today and theyre closed tomorrow. but we do now and will take her on monday. can anyone give me any advice for until then?

We cannot advice you to give medication to your Rabbit, we are not qualified to do so. However, Pedialite and Emeraid would be OK to give, BUT if you think she has a recurrence of pneumonia and she is exhibiting respiratory distress then administering anything by mouth, even plain water, carries a significant risk. She may aspirate it and this can be fatal.

If she is not eating and has no fecal output then you need to be certain that there is not an obstruction within her GI tract before attempting to give the Emeraid.

Can you not at least telephone a Vet to obtain qualified professional advice over the phone ?

update

so i think the emeraid saved her. she stopped eating but she tried to latch on to the syringe when we fed her. i took her to the vet and she has an upper respiratory infection. the vet prescribed her an antibiotic called sulfamate something or other that tastes like cherries. she really likes it and she started eating on her own last night. thanks for all your support!

I hope she continues to recover. It's very important that she remains on antibiotics for several days AFTER all symptoms resolve. If the course of abx is too short it may not fully eradicate all the bacteria and a relapse can occur.

shes not on baytril this time its called sulfamethoxazole/trimeth. its cherry flavored and she loves it. its also started to show some improvement with her cough
