Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What causes floppy ear tip?

Hi everyone,

We got a male Belgian Hare to keep our rather bossy mini rex girl company about a week ago now. He is 10 weeks old. He is eating well, drinking, bright and alert and no causes for concern, except after about 3 days of getting him home the tip of his right ear went floppy. Its not the whole ear, he's not head tilting and doesn't seem remotely bothered by it. He isn't kept in the same hutch as another rabbit atm as she is still getting used to him with supervised contact in the house. I haven't seen him injure it and there are no signs of injury. Has anyone ever experienced this before? Is this something to be concerned about? Or is it just the way he is? Obviously if he seemed ill I'd have taken him to a vet, but he seems totally fine other than his ear!

.. Hiya and Welcome!

I dont know if this is correct but if an uppy eared bunny develops a lop ear, it could indicate an ear infection of some sort. Or it may be that theres a lop cross in the breeding somewhere..

i am sure someone will provide a definitive answer for you soon,,,

We'd love to see more bunny piccies!!!

It's not something I'd immediately panic over if it looks otherwise normal and he's perky, but it would be good to get checked out - if he hasn't had vaccinations yet then you could combine trips (save paying the extra consultation fee!) and get them to check it at the same time. He might have damaged the cartilage or vessels in his ear.

Does it look a little like this?

If so..... that, became this......

Which now is this..........

It all happened in the space of a few weeks.
