  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help! Doughnut's sneezing? Well I think she is.

Heard a noise about 6 times in a row which sounded like a sneezes, I went over and she was still making the noise and shaking her head. She then decided to beg while doing it. I was concerned so went to get food to see if she followed me, she did and now it's stopped and she ate her bit of muesli.

Hard to describe but has anyone else had their rabbit sneeze a lot in one succession then stop. It wasn't a choking noise. Any noise that I don't recognise concerns me though. She is happily eating hay now.

Alfie occasionally does this - I think he just sniffs a bit of hay dust and it makes him sneeze  there's no discharge and the vet's listened to his chest recently, so I don't think it's anything more than when we sometimes have sneezing fit for no reason :)

I have a sneezy rabbit! Was there white discharge? If so, a vet's visit would be advised.

I find rabbits can be, or become, allergic even to hay, and certainly to dust. Perhaps there was a bit of a new smell around?

Ludo does this, it's usually dust up his nose from dried herbs.

Unless she keeps doing it or there's a discharge she's probably just sneezing something out!
