  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Breakthru with Dumplin's meds anyway

Right or wrong I have found a new way to give him his Meds that don't require me to wear full chain mail :lol: and have a 10 minute fight

I am lying him on my lap feet in my tummy head by my knees (on his back :?) but not quite flat so not really trancing, I hope, holding him by the back of the neck not exactly scruffing just holding his head he is breathing normally and not panting either :)

In this position he is not struggling, will take the medicine and actually swallows it rather than just letting it run out of his mouth like before :? and if he does decide not to swallow if I sit him up he licks his lips and then we have another drop:)

On a plus he is better with the Loxicom with a touch of sticky sweet Ribena in it just .01 ml in his 1ml and he seems to enjoy that and licks his lips properly :D

I'm not putting it in the Baytril as it goes a funny colour :?

On the abscess front it's still there but is slowly going down not all of it is like toothpaste more like syrup / Toothpaste mixed  if you can imagine that :(

I really wouldn't advise giving him anything by mouth when he's on his back. The risk of him aspirating it is so great and should that happen the outcome could be tragic

No he isn't lying down I know that's not good, sort of sitting at 45 degrees but not struggling and does swallow the meds :D
