Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Tip for giving medicine

Hi everyone,
One of my buns has just been in for a spay and I managed to give her her meds for three days but on the fourth day she was having none of it! This stressed us both out. I had some broccoli in the fridge so I squeezed her dose inbetween the florets at the top and she just ate the broccoli without blinking an eye. Stress free meds! :thumb:

I put it on a shreedie, not the ideal bunny food I know but 2 shreedies with 0.3ml of metacam on each and twinkle was medicated in seconds

Well, a spoonful of sugar (or shreddie) helps the medicine go down... Sorry I'm having a Mary poppins moment!

Anything goes for stress free meds I think!

Wow, you all have well behaved bunnies! I tried that with Harvey but nope, he wouldn't fall for it, he'd sniff the banana/herb/bran flake for ages until he realised it was medicine then he'd run off flicking his feet at me

Lilly might fall for it though if I ever have to give her medicine, I didn't have too many issues with the panacur last week though, I knelt down, Lilly between calves and thighs so she can't go sideways, feet together so she can't go backwards, one hand on head to keep it still for meds and to prevent movement up or forwards, syringe in mouth, squeeze and release bunny! She does struggle, but it's normally over in a matter of seconds, plus I give her a herb after and she's my best friend again
