Age of my Rex kit?

Ziebirds

Young Bun
Hi

I've recently brought a female baby Rex bunny, the owner I purchased it off didn't tell me age nor was it in the posting, I was wondering what age was. If it's too young to from its mother, if it's ok and the general concerns for baby?

I'm not sure they'll be any indication, but any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

She a cutie. She looks young but not super young. I'd guess about 8 weeks, which is normal going to a new home time.

The most important thing with a new baby is to keep the diet as consistent as possible - so feed the same brand food and don't introduce lots of new fresh foods if she hasn't had them before. The exception is hay which they should always have available.

Welcome to the forum! she is super cute! I imagine that's what my black Rex willow would have looked like as baby!:love:

Thanks for all the welcomes, she is lovely little bunny, her name is elphaba,

I'm just wondering if there's anything that I should watch out with a baby? Apart from diet.

She is gorgeous! I can't think of anything specific to look out for. I found my little buck was easier to look after as a baby; he didn't mind being held so much, didn't need his nails clipped and didn't have any behavioural problems due to hormones (though neutering sorted those out). He is the only kit I have looked after though and I was a complete novice as regards bunnies so someone with more experience may have more advice for you!

Hi

what a lovely rabbit!!!

The main thing I would say to do as a new bunny owner/carer is to find yourself a GOOD rabbit vet. If you do not already have rabbits (or even if you do) you may not know that many many vets (most of them in fact) do not do more than a few hours of training on rabbits in all the years of univeristy and qualifying etc etc.

They may be fantastic with dogs and cats but as rabbits are so very dfferent and the medicines/illnesses and anaesthetics etc are very very different.

So even if you have a good vet for your cat or dog you will need a rabbit savvy vet for your rabbit. They will need vaccinations as soon as they are settled with you (within a couple of weeks once they are happy and their immune system is great); and of course eventually neutering - and this is best done by an expert rabbit vet who will specialise in knowing about rabbit anaesthetics etc

So whilst you have time to think take a few moments out from playing with your new rabbit and post a thread on here asking for recommendations close to where you live for a good rabbit vet.

One day you will be so pleased you did so!! better now than when you are in the middle of an emergency!!.
