Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Louie and his refusing food saga

*lily*

Wise Old Thumper
Hasn't happened for a few days but yesterday he ate his morning food fine fed him in the evening and he refused it, ran into the garden and hid which he always does when feeling off.

He smelt really bad, worse than just a poo smell, like a dirty farmyard. Picked him up and he had a tiny bit of soft poo stuck to him which I cleaned off but he still smelt strongly.

I never see him drink at other times but, when he is refusing food, I offer him the bowl of water and he drinks loads and his stomach starts gurgling madly.

He will then come out of hiding to have another couple of drinks and then, about an hour later, he starts eating again.

It's as if his gut gets dried out, gets moisture in there again, and he feels better :?

Today he had finished off last nights food, I have fed him again this morning and he has eaten a good half of it. He also doesn't smell at all today.

Any ideas anyone?

From time to time my bunny is like this, I guess it became sorta chronical after a long antibiotic treatment combined with the fact that she doesn't eat enough hay. 3-4 days on gut stimulant (Metoclopramide), helps Chrissy get back to normal
