Specialist Rabbit Vets in the East Midlands?

PoppyTheRex

Young Bun
I'm looking for a Vet that knows their stuff about rabbits. Can anyone suggest one within the East Midlands? Anywhere from Boston to Peterborough, that general zone? If it's the case I'd have to travel out further, I'm all good for it.

Thanks

Could you get to Thurlby, near to Bourne? I'd guess it's around 20mins from Peterborough.

My vet, Sarah Pellett, is brilliant with rabbits. She's got two bunnies of her own and has treated mine over the past couple of years, never ever had any problems with her, she's saved the life of one of mine before and is always very positive :) Can't recommend her enough, I really can't! I think she's also doing/has done a diploma thingy in Rabbit Medicine, but may be mistaken! Either way, she's very experienced.

Sorry I live in Kent and have a brilliant specialist but he's in Maidstone so that's 2 hours from Peterborough. Hope you manage to find someone nearer.

Wow, this forum is GREAT and full of lovely people. So speedy in your replies!

Thank you all for your suggestions. But Bourne is actually pretty close to where I am now, so that'll work!! My baby is gonna be booked on Monday!!

...unless it's another Bank Holiday *goes to check*

Kind regards,
Owner of Storm & Poppy

Good luck! Animates is a lovely practice, make sure to ask for an appt with Sarah though as opposed to any other vet as they might not automatically refer you. They know us by sight and voice now, don't even need to ask who we are  Some people have said they're more expensive than others, but I just think I'm paying to see a specialist so extra cost is ok! What's your bun going in for, out of curiosity? Also, if they are insured Sarah does the claims free of charge, unlike other vets who sometimes do charge a processing fee :)

Let me know how you get on with her!

Yes, exactly, you're paying for what you get. And when it comes to animals, I'll pay for the nose if it means they have a comfortable and happy life.

Storm is going to be seen for suspected sore hocks. I've taken him twice to my normal Vet, who didn't seem concerned. So getting an opinion from a Vet who is a specialist, will put my mind at rest either way. But I do believe his sores should be treated some way or another, not happy with the way its looking.

I don't have them insured, didn't even really look into that. :O And I'll be sure to ask for Sarah, I'll mention she was recommended by a user from Rabbits United. (^_^)

Ironically I took my bunny in for sore hocks (as well as ear issues) the other week! I think insurance would be wise, if I'm honest, as we spent nearly £700 in one day with Alfie a couple of weeks ago! We've also claimed for £1200 worth of treatment in 6 weeks for my other (now at the bridge) bun in May/June/July. I use helpucover, which is £7something a month for one bunny. Well worth it, we'd have had to had my previous bun pts a lot earlier had we not have had insurance to fall back on.

Sarah's very thorough, so if there is a problem that requires treatment (i.e depending on the severity, Alfie's weren't that bad and he went through a period of Sudocrem twice daily and a thick bed of hay, they've now cleared up) I'm sure you'll get it.

If you tell Sarah that Sophie with Alfie the mini lop recommended you, she should know who you mean! We've become such regulars recently  Good luck :)

Be careful with insurance. We wanted to get Beau insured, but the main problem we've had with him is stasis, and because he's had it before it wouldn't be covered, plus dentals which often (always?) aren't covered.
