Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Rabbit ear problem

Hi, I'm new to the forum, my young mini lop rabbit has got a strange scab like thing on his ear, it's hard to see because its mostly black like his fur other than some yellow- white crusty stuff on it which I'm not sure is part of the problem or it just got stuck on his ear. He has been itching his ears since we got him but up until now there seemed to be nothing wrong. We took him to the vets to get his jabs last week (before this started) where they looked at his ears and said there was nothing wrong (they took some fur samples for a test and it said he was fine) so I have no idea what this could be, I know mini lops are prone to ear problems so I thaught before thinking it was stress like the vet said I would check here first.
He is also spending most of the time in his cage flopped out on the floor with his head on the ground
(Also he is a house rabbit so I don't think it could be anything from outside but the breeder we got him from did keep him in a shed like thing in the garden.)
Thanks for reading this :)

Did the lump appear a few days after the Vaccination was given ?

You say he is 'spending most of the time in his cage', do you mean he is unusually quiet/lethargic ?

Is he eating/drinking/pooing and weeing OK ?

Have you checked him all over for any other lumps ?

It sounds very similar to a problem I had with my mini lop after his vaccination. He developed several crusts on his ears, which disappeared after about three weeks. We reckon it was due to the vaccination lowering his immune system and temporarily allowing mites, which when he got back on form again just disappeared as quickly as they came.

I would keep an eye on him and take him back to the vet if it doesn't improve.

Good luck and welcome to the Forum
