Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How long should it take for poo after a stasis episode?

Overnight on Wednesday Cleo only ate half her tea, and yesterday stopped eating altogether.

She has seen the vet yesterday and had metacam, metaclop and baytril after a thorough examination.

She happily had two syringe feeds yesterday evening and ate most but not all of her food overnight however we are still waiting for poo's (beside a few v small ones)

How long does it normally take for them to start passing poo's properly? She is back at the vet this evening.

For those who aren't aware, Cleo is a headtilt bunny and although she is normally well, she is obviously a bit more 'complex' than your normal healthy bun!

She appears to be happy and bright within herself.

Forgot to mention she had a bit of a dirty bum on Tuesday evening, so not sure if this is connected (it's not unusual for her to have a dirty bum occasionally)

Also, could it be related to her vaccination last Friday? Vet didn't think it was, but he did say it's a possibility she just feels a bit under the weather while the vaccination kicks in.

I have read on here that it can take between 6 hrs and 48 hrs for a rabbit to start pooping properly. Hope Cleo recovers soon.

Spice had an episode a couple of weeks ago and it took her around 36 hours to poo again - that's the longest she's ever taken and they were tiny. Proper poos resumed after about 3-4 days. She was on painkillers and gut stimulant, but I didn't syringe feed her because she was lightly nibbling some food even at her worst - syringe feeding might speed it up?

She seems to be eating well now. She usually grazes on her breakfast throughout the day but most has gone. Just waiting for some poo! Back at the vet at 5.10.

Vet found nothing abnormal, her gut is moving fine and everything feels normal.

She has spent quite a bit of time hopping around outside and eating grass. Her appetite is definatly back to normal. Just waiting on these poo's now.
