  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

should i give bisc avipro plus?

he's on antibiotics for 10days. we don't normally give a probiotic during medication, but i have some avipro plus in that i got for maisie piggy so wondered if i should?

our vet said there's no evidence probiotics work for rabbits, but there's also no harm giving one if that's what people want to do and feel that they do work.

thanks

eta: he's still on half a teaspoon of profibre pellets at the moment so this might be enough anyway???

My specialist thinks they work, he told me to put Doughnut on Avipro plus which I did. I put a pinch over the food.

i'm not sure what to do... as usual  i might up his profibre to one teaspoon just for the meds course for now. i could always try the avipro if i feel he needs it. i don't really want to give both at once.. but i fear for my life if he doesn't have any profibre

Normally yes I would use a probiotic like aviopro or biolapsis, but am I right in thinking Bisc's tum is a bit sensitive? In which case I would stick with the profibre that he's used to as it has a probiotic in it anyway.

yes his tummy is sensitive, which worries me when considering giving him something new. think we'll stick with the profibre. he seems fine for now anyway. thanks
