Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

scent glands?

Hello.

We have just adopted a little girly bun to extend our little family and have a wife bun to our boy… Her litter smells a lot for some reason, so I checked her scent glands, which appeared to be clean… But I just realised something… She didn't really have that waxy substance in those pockets, but the actual glands both seemed to be dark… We had our boy for 4,5 years now, and his scent glands never appeared to be dark….
So is it normal that hers are dark? I have no comparison, really, and if I google it, I can't seem to find proper images that might help me answer the question..

than you in advance, guys!

Yes, sometimes the skin looks dark as it is so thin that the waxy contents of the glands can be seen through the skin :)

Thanks Jane,
Wow, out boy's skin must be more thick or something… :)
Good to know it is normal… I was just a bit worried that it is proper dark, made me think that the waxy stuff is stuck and she needs help with it...
