  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Panacur, do you routinely give? for EC?

When I popped Shadow to the vets a few weeks ago my ace new vet suggested giving both buns panacur as a precaution.

Do any of you already do this? Should I?

I just got a text from the vet to say Susan's is due!!! (they are so good at information)

I'm just about to search for previous threads but any advice is greatly appreciated

I have had two Rabbits with EC in the past, but I don't give panacur as a precaution.

I have read that giving it too much can prevent it from being any use when needed, and I have also read that panacur is useless to prevent and cure against EC......there is so much out there that you really just need to decide what you want to do.

Never give it routinely, apparently it can cause it to be less effective if ever needed.

Does this go as using it as a regular wormer too? I treated both my bunnies when I first got them but haven't done it since as i'd heard this

From what I have read and understood, yes. That's why I don't routinely do so.

All new bunnies to my household get a 28 day course but apart from that I only re-treat if anybun is showing symptoms.
