Found photos of Flopsy having a dental

So early this morning whilst I was getting ready for bed - my brother came down to tell me that he had found Flopsy on the internet! I did not believe him at first but when I saw  It is Flopsy for sure! Yes of course we do not have no definite answer whether it is actually him but I can recognize all of Flopsy's features and it would be a coincidence not to be him. Flopsy had a dental two weeks ago so I am assuming this was taken then (who knows as there is not a date of when this was published!?) I am surprised I was never told that Flopsy was going to be published online? I don't have a problem with it but it was a surprise seeing him like that. Anyway the online interview/article is quite interesting. :thumb:

Here it is - Behind the scenes at Anton Vets

This is what it says about Flopsy  - With only time to scrub in for the next procedure, John is ready again for another tooth filing on a rabbit, much the same as before but this time the rabbit takes a long time to anaesthetise due to it holding it's breath. This is by far the longest part of any surgical procedure.

In other news, unfortunately Flopsy has deteriorated. We are now at the stage where nothing more can be done, we will soon have to let him go  His appetite was decreasing gradually before his dental and hasn't improved despite having his spurs burred. He has also lost 100g and although he has remained the same weight for a week now, he is not putting back what he lost. He is starting to show signs of struggle and tiredness, which is no surprise with all of his problems. The dental two weeks ago was the last option we had; to stabilize him and to manage his pain. He had his meds increased and another drug added prior to that but it seems his body is failing him. The prospect of having to say goodbye to him makes me very sad, I think he only has a week or two at the most before we will have to let him go. He is only eating critical care or rolled oats and mashed pellets mixed with critical care. He will eat dandelions and still remains enthusiastic about medication time but other than those times - he looks so tired and a little sad :(

The other day I took Flopsy on an adventure outside - here are some photos from our little trip

Wow...I think I'd be a little concerned that the journalist was not interfering with the procedure, but I doubt John would allow that to happen anyway. I wonder if the statement about the rabbit was true or if it's embellishment? :?

I had meant to start a thread last night to see how you and Flopsy were, Jack. I am so sorry to hear that time may now be growing short for him. :( ((((((((((((((((((((Huge hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))
I know there are no words to help in such a circumstance. But he has, through you, been blessed with a wonderful life and home filled with devotion, good food, companions and comfort. What more could a wee bunny ask for?
I will be thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers for more lovely days like the one you pictured, along with all your gentle, lovable fluffsters. Bless you. xxxxxxxx

That is quite interesting!

Flopsy is so sweet, I love seeing his pictures
Im so sorry that you're running out of time with him

So sorry to hear that Flopsy is slowing down. x

If I'm honest I would be furious about the photos if it were Ludo, firstly for not asking permission for them to be there during the op (as I'd say no) and secondly for them to publish.

The photos are really interesting :thumb: I had a quick look to see if there was any of Skye as she has been in and out of Anton recently, but nothing :(

The only thing I'd be annoyed about is not being told about the photos so I could look at them. They are fascinating though :D

I'm so sorry about Flopsy, I hope his last days are filled with happiness :(

I'd love to have photos of Alfie published - like Catherine said, the only thing I'd be annoyed about was not knowing about them sooner

I can't imagine for a second John Chitty would have allowed the photographer to be in the room if it would distract him - like when TV crews go into human Operating Theatres, they'd never go in unless the surgeon didn't mind and was confident that it wouldn't distract them. It's a fairly routine procedure anyway, it isn't like he's actually operating on Flopsy and needs absolute silence in the room or anything. They wouldn't have photographed anything more major, I'm sure.

My own vets regularly post photographs up of pets on their Facebook page, especially seen as my vet is an exotics specialist so has seen marmosets, raccoon dogs, skunks etc...I'd be surprised if they checked with each individual owner before posting the photographs as that'd take up most of their time!

They're really interesting photographs! I've always wondered how they do these things, although it's probably slightly different from surgery to surgery.

Oh, Jck, I'm so sorry. :( He certainly does look quite poorly in those pics, but still seems to be enjoying his trip outside. Sending him lots and lots of vibes. I think you have done very well to keep him as happy and healthy as you have for so long.

I hope you have longer than a few weeks with him yet. He is certainly a little fighter so fingers crossed he starts putting weight on. x

Bless little Flopsy on his outing :love::love:

I'm sorry that he is so poorly and am sending mega vibes that he picks up and stays comfortable xxxx

Thank you everyone for your kind replies

Thanks Catherine!

This is exactly it! I am so fascinated by the pictures, I can't stop looking at them

I'm so grateful to have an amazing vet - if it wasn't for him then Flopsy wouldn't be here now.

Wow, really interesting photos, glad your brother found them and told you. Sorry to hear that Flopsy isn't doing well. He looks like he still managed to enjoy his outdoor time

Sorry to hear that Flopsy will soon be leaving you

I've just had a rabbit go through a dental for the first time and I was a bit  at these pictures. I know the rabbit is asleep throughout but they look a bit manhandled!

I feel bad now...I hope no one thought I was bagging on John Chitty for allowing a photographer in the operating theater. :( No doubt he could handle having him in there and as has been said, it's not quite the same as a sterile human OR. I just found it kind of surprising.
My vet doesn't allow anyone into the "inner sanctum"...it's just not done here. With the exception of one vet on the west side of town who not only allowed me in the operating area while she worked on Mimzy once, but her surgical room actually had three window panels that could be seen through from the outdoors and the waiting area. She was a magnificent dental surgeon and a very confident lady. Likeable and easy to speak with too. She retired to the lower 48 and no longer practices here. :(

Just thought I'd clear that up.
