The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Tips for giving eye drops please

Anyone got any tips for giving eye drops?
I'm trying and think I'm failing miserably to give them to my giant bun, she is great at settling down and sits really still but no matter what angle I approach with the eye drops she seems to just close her eyes at the right, or wrong, time, and the drops just roll down her cheeks!
She has a bacterial infection and I just want her to get better :(

Bumping this up

I'm having to give my giant eye drops too and I'm not having much luck :( so any tips would be much appreciated here too.

I had to give my Timmy bunny drops for months. He was a very, very nervous bun at the time.

I found the easiest way was to sit with him on my knee, then lean over him so my chest was gently pressing on his back. Hold his eye open gently (not for too long) with a finger at the top and one at the bottom, and pop the drop in. You might need to gently turn the head a little to stop them coming out.

When the drop is in, close the eye gently over the drop.

I hope that makes sense. Good luck.

We have to give them to Dash and the first few times he used to run away and we had to bribe him and hold him down. However I now have a new way I lay on the floor with him and stroke him very gently over his nose and round his eyes and ears until it looks like he falling asleep then I come from behind him pull eyelid with my finger from the top and gently but the drops in, I usually talk to him telling him how good he is letting mammy do his poorly eye. Then of course he gets a little treat for being good.

We had to give them to waffles a few months back and it was out first attempt
I held her and oh put the drops in. First few times we were rubbish and kept missing but then googled some old RU posts and learned the magic trick of gently pulling the eyelid up and it became a whole lot easier!
