Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Antibiotic ear-wicks

hoppetylop

Mama Doe
Hi.My bun Harry is having ear-wicks containing penicillin put in his ears today to treat his long standing ear infection. Its a fairly new procedure I believe but because he cant have the penicillin injections any more this is our only option before going down a more complicated surgery route.
I just wondered if anyone elses bun had had this treatment and if it helped?
Could I also ask for some vibes for successful treatment?:)
Thanks.

I have heard of their use before but so far none of my Rabbits have had this type of treatment

I assume that the Vet has done some culture and sensitivity testing ? Sometimes if a Rabbit has been on Penicillin injections for some time the bacteria involved may have developed a resistance to it.

Yes my French Lop Skye had this procedure done a few weeks back to treat an ear infection - she had them put in under GA and taken out and ears flushed a week afterwards. It made a massive difference and cleared her infection up really well :D

Hi Jane.Yes hes done a culture and sensitivity testing. The injections were working all be it slowly but he developed such a bad reaction on his injection site that the vet wanted to try this approach to see if we had better results.
