  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is this normal?

Is this normal? I got my male rabbit only a couple of days ago and when he is eating... its extremely loud.. it sounds like they are grating against each other or just catching. im not sure if it is something to do with his teeth or not. He wont let me go anywhere near his mouth and i dont want to stress him out because he is very shy. I know this may be a silly question but should I take him to the vets asap to see if they can find out whats going on?

What is he eating? I wouldn't worry - his teeth can't be that painful as he wouldn't be eating otherwise! Bunnies are quite noisy eaters anyway, especially when mine is eating excel pellets! It'll help keep his teeth short anyway :)

I'm by no means an expert, but I know that rabbits do eat quite loudly. Does he seem to be in pain? Or discomfort? I think if he had a dental problem he would be less inclined to eat because it hurt.

Hey
There are no silly questions when it comes to rabbits, we are all learning all the time about these adorable little furries :)

Maybe video his eating and put it on here and people can give you their opinion.

Just an idea :)

If he's eating hay, then his teeth are probably working fine :) Sometimes mine eat strands of straw and they make a sound like my friend eating his undercooked parsnips :lol:
