  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I've booked Reggie into the vets

:( I can't put my finger on it. He's alright. Things seem normal... But something ain't right. :?

A couple weeks back I posted a pic of Reggie. It was Jane who asked about his eye.

Reggie has been into the vets before about his eye(s) and I was told they were "fine". :? If they weep etc take him back.

I was with him on the floor about 20ish minutes ago and I was shocked to see his left eye. The only way to describe it was that it looked drooped.

Panicked I phoned the vets. The only space is 5:20. I've got no one to watch the kids and I rely on my husband to take Reggie as he's so heavy/the crate is very awkward/big.

My husband doesn't finish until 5 so I explained that he might be late. Luckily, the receptionist was great. She said it was ok that hubby might be a little late - with rabbits it's best to get them in and checked out as soon as something out of the ordinary is spotted. :thumb:

I tried to get a pic of his eye but Reggie is dozing. when I got off the phone it didn't look as bad, and I feel stupid now. but I need peace of mind that there's nothing sinister going on.

I've prob just overreacted. :oops::roll:

Hubby at vets now armed with my written list.

He's just text me to say he's in the waiting room and he's getting a lot of comments and "wow"s from people... That's my boy.

The vet is stumped RE.reggies eye.

There's no puss, so he's not linking it to blocked tear ducts /tooth roots etc.

He's checked his teeth and they are looking fine, though we know without a skull x-ray we won't know for sure whats going on.

The eyes:

Poor quality but best I can do for mo - top pic is Reggie's "normal" eye, the bottom is where the bottom lid droops. You can just make out the shape difference. It was much worse prior to phoning.

The vet thinks it could be a condition in which there is a size difference in the eye lid. :? my husband said the vet gave it a long, complicated name, just wish he'd got the vet to write it down so I could research it.

He's given Reggie some eye drops as both eyes are a little crusty in the corners. I'm hoping to do a photo diary to see if the eyes change shape at all.

If anyone has any eye drop administering advice, please please do share as I've never had to give them before.

Does the bottom lid kind of gape outwards? That was how Nettle's eye was when she had an ulcer (caused by a spike of hay we think). Emergency vet missed it completely, only my good rabbit-savvy vet spotted it. did they put green dye in his eye to have a look?

Oh noooo!! Poor Reggie. I have no real experience with eyes but hope he's well soon.

I've had to give eye drops to both Dexter & Lady Katherine. I've found that gently opening the eyelids really wide & letting them blink afterwards to wash it over the whole eye the easiest. Lady Katherine hates medicine but doesn't mind eye drops.
Get well soon vibes for lovely Reggie

Sorry to hear about Reggie. I hope that you get to the bottom of the cause. Good luck with the eye drops, Moley is pretty good with eye ointment administration, so hopefully Reggie won't mind!!
