best cleaner for hutch

Mia

Warren Scout
Hi all
I am collecting our much anticipated new rescues soon and just wondered what cleaner can I use to clean out my hutches and baskets.
I am very much and aware how delicate new buns are to a new environment so would like their rest and play areas as scrupulously clean as possible.

I use Johnson's Clean n Safe which is a pet disinfectant. Easy to spot in pet shops because it's green and easy to see if you haven't rinsed it out properly. It's not amazing at removing stains or urine build-up though, so for that I use white vinegar.

When you are disinfecting for diseases, you can use Virkon or bleach, but IMO they are a bit harsh for daily use. Rabbits live in holes in the ground, so I believe a little bit of dirt is good for them - i.e. I don't regularly disinfect their run except for areas where they've weed on.

A very mild bleach solution for cleaning.. And to get rid rid of scents, a solution of white vinegar and water is also a good one..

Most of the ones in pets at home etc are suitable, but I find some a bit overpowering scent-wise. The johnson's one was good for me when I used it though!

Personally I now use trigene/anigene or other disinfectants which you dilute, just because I find them very cost effective. They also are not overpowering at all, and can be quite a nice fragrance. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anigene-Sur...e=UTF8&qid=1405869527&sr=1-1&keywords=trigene. It also comes in wipes which are handy too http://www.amazon.co.uk/Trigene-Dis...e=UTF8&qid=1405869527&sr=1-5&keywords=trigene. At the moment I'm using http://www.amazon.co.uk/Groom-Profe...405869586&sr=1-3&keywords=cherry+disinfectant and it's really nice, and you can also use it for in the house too. I just dilute it in a couple of spray bottles at a time and use away!

Thank you yaretzi, trigene/anigene sounds ideal.

I am using Dettol lime and mint cleansing wipes at the moment!
It's easy and works really well. Also they smell really, really good...

I just use a white vinegar and water mix - chemical free and completely effective. I'm lucky as my buns are well litter trained so there is little to clean other than the litter trays. I find myself sweeping and dust blustering more than having to disinfect.
