Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Quick Advice About Tomorrow

3LO

Young Bun
I am hoping to get freelo booked in to be neutered tomorrow at pets at home companion care. I believe it goes as the following, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Day 1 - Pre Op
Day 2 - Op & After care

I was just wondering if I rang up at 9AM tomorrow, do you think they could get me booked in for this all in one day, tomorrow? Its just that I am fairly busy lately and it would be more convenient to get the pre op done on the same day, surely the pre op doesn't take that long?

Also, how much would the total cost come to with after care medication etc for a male lion head, 6 months old.

It's very unlikely that they'd be able to book you in for a routine/non-emergency surgery on the same day that you ring in. You often have to book a week in advance. Especially on a Saturday as well as many surgeries will close before 5pm and so to have him neutered and to have him recovered you'd be needing to drop him off before 9am really.

Pre-ops don't usually take long no, and they're often done on the same day. You can choose to have it done the night before and have him stay there or bring him back, but I often find like you that it's easier to do it all on one day.

The cost can vary but I'd budget up to £100. Boys are generally cheaper than girls but it can vary from £50-80 easily. Do make sure they send you home with at least several days worth of painkillers! It seems to be common for vets to forget to prescribe pain relief but it's important in rabbits (and any animal really)

Thanks for the reply, I will give them a ring first thing tomorrow morning and see whats available.

I was quoted £50 last time I rang them, I asked if medication was included and they said they are 99% sure it is. I do hope so as I wont have any extra money on me if it goes over :(.

Each Companion Care is different, but mine wouldn't neuter at the weekend because they have reduced staffing so only do emergency ops. They do the pre-op on the same day as the op.

They also don't include pain relief to take home in the price quoted. Somebody could tell you for sure if the price includes the Metacam for using at home. Personally, if it doesn't, I would wait till I had enough money for the pain relief at home as well.

I take my neuters in at 8 am and collect about 3 pm. Boys cost £50. This only includes a painkilling injection before they come home. Most boys perk up quickly.
