Okay this maybe a bit of a long winded post.. SO I do apologise in advance, I just want to try help Merlin + his wet face look... lol
SO Merlin is 6 he's not always had blocked tear ducts, but maybe for about 3-31/2 years
He's had them flushed - ONCE which I was told by a very savvy vet at the time that his tear ducts are so thin that they struggled to even get (whaever it is they use) in his ducts to flush, though some came out but they did deem is unsuccessful - The vet advised there & then that future ducts unless 110% necessary would not be worth it for his stress as his are so thin etc etc. (rabbit savvy vet has since left and everytime I take him in for general check ups/vaccinations etc etc it is someone new/different!)
SO Merlin's eye health has actually been okay up until maybe the last 6 months or so, his tears are obviously burning his fir away so he's getting quite bald on his face, I've actually cut a lot away myself around the eye area (read it on a post here) and use sudocreme when it gets red/sore looking (also soak it with chamomile tea cooled down)
Anyway couple of months back - I went on holiday leaving bunny at home with family who know him + he knows them and he was able to stay in his surroundings, went on the Monday, thursday got a call to say he's had to be seen the vets as his eye is playing up
(he recently before that an an eye ulcer which he was treated for and the ulcer is now filled + healed long before we went)
So obviously we came back from the holiday.. His EYE oMG I've never seen it so bad, fully closed up + gunky and just awful, but the vet they'd been to seen wasn't very helpful, didn't soak/bathe his eye nothing and literally just pulled it open - told them to bring him in for a duct flush the following day.. Going back through his past I was reluctant so I rung them up and asked to speak to someone who know's a little more about buns, they agreed with me not to take him in, but use the Antibiotic drops and see how he goes (antibiotcs were the fulthicmide sp?)
SO in a few day's with soaking, and gently massaging his eye's he got back to normal, but since this I've noticed the wee slit by his eye is maybe been slit open (perhaps were vet just yanked open his eye without even bathing first)
And his eye's now seem worse, they're running an awful lot + get red + sore I do chamomile bathes + sudocreme on them to help every couple of day's which seem to help but obviously his fur is thinning and his eyes are wet on a regular basis.
I am just wondering what else I can do.. I am now skeptical about that vets as I am SURE they did more damage then good, his eye where it joins at the bottom towards his nose is split open more so than the other side (wasn't like this before)
BUT DO I go back to the vets demand another flush, perhaps even a dental check (He hasn't had this before either) But then he's not really had too many infections just his runny eyes, What more is there that I can do?
I read somewhere on here about some guinea soothing gel, is this the aloe vera one that is suitable for sows too, or do Ineed to be looking elsewhere?
I am sorry for the essay but his face just seems to be getting wetter + sorer more than usual and obviously I don't want him to be suffering despite the chamomile + sudocreme giving him back his pinkness (though I think it does look worse as there's no fur there now)
Is there anything more I could or should be doing for him?
