  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rue not eating, please help

Frankie28

Young Bun
Rue hasn't been herself at all today. Very subdued and not wanting to eat. At first I thought it was because of the heat, she is often quieter when it is hot. But she still won't eat, even a pellet mash. She just wants to lie down and be left alone.
Emergency vets?

I think emergancy vets too, especially if it's been a while now. Is she pooping ok?

Lots of vibes for her x

Definitely emergency vets ASAP.

Don't be tempted to syringe her any food in case she has a blockage, but syringing water can be helpful.

Hope she's okay.

Thank you all for your advice :)
Just got back from the vets with Rue. She had two small spurs on her teeth so this could have possibly caused discomfort which then lead to her not eating and resulting in stasis. Could be coincidence but will get them checked none the less. She was treated with anti inflammatory and pain killer (metaclopromide) injections and I have wen given recovery food for her. Promptly on arrival back home she tucked into a huge mouthful of grass. What a relief!
Thank you all again, definitely the right advice!

Rue says she's feeling better this morning although very thirsty. She's eating plenty and has had her normal morning run around the garden.
I will still keep a close eye on her as I know all the meds could start wearing off soon. But hopefully she's on the road to recovery :D

Glad she is on the road to recovery, my rabbit has been admitted today as not eating, just laying about and looks uncomfortable, so vet is doing an x ray and giving meds etc. Makes me feel ill when they are ill :(
