  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

First combi vacc/spaying??

Alibunbun

What age is it recommended to get a rabbits first combi vaccination? And what age is normal/acceptable for a doe to be spayed?

Oh and one more  When should I get the first general check up done? When I go for the combi vacc. Or after picking her up?

Vaccinations can be done from 5 weeks so as soon as you get her, if the breeder doesn't have it done for you. Spaying is usually about 6 months but will depend on yor vet.

Personally I would wait a few days to let her settle before taking her for a check up, but I have heard it advised to go as soon as you get her to limit all the stress to one day

If she hasn't been vaccinated, then I'd do it as soon as possible. I believe young buns are more at risk from VHD and they can have the combi vaccination from a very early age. Females buns are usually spayed at 4-5 months at my vets. Again, the sooner the better as it should help calm down hormones.

Thank you both :thumb:

I did think maybe all in one day would be better as I don't want to stress her out too much :? But then again, it might be too much stress? I'll get her vaccinated ASAP once I bring her home and ask about my local rabbit savvy vets spaying procedure.

She looks very young and as I don't know how long you have had her I would give her a week to settle in then take her for her vaccination and check up. The Vet could also check to see if it is a girl, at this age it is not that easy to tell. Spaying age varies between different owners and Vets, I have always waited until mine have been 5 - 6 months.

Like I say, I haven't brought her home yet, she is too young  Thank you for the advice! :thumb:
