Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dry ears

Just noticed dry flakes on the outside of my bunny ladys ears. I've checked inside the ears/rest of body/base of her neck and there's no problem. Just looks like dandruff. I gently pulled fur out around the tips of her ears (also do this during a moult) and just looked normal with fur attached to drier skin.
Any ideas? She's fine apart from that and her husbun is 100% fine

ETA: I've looked reeeeally closely and can't see any movement and when smudged the flakes smudge like skin so I'm fairly sure no mites but not ruling them out!

Looks like dry skin, it may be worth ruling out mites.

My Barney has this on his ears and it's not mites, but it is due to malnutrition (he has a gut problem, I don't starve him).

Yeah I'd pop to the vets to get some treatment for ear mites, looking at that

That doesn't look like Barney's at all, his is dry skin still attached to the ears and flaking off, whereas that is proper dandruff. The wax makes me think ear mites rather than fur mites, but it could be both.

To be honest it's only flaky because I'd been rubbing it. Doesn't matter I'll take them both to the vets tomorrow if possible. Can't see the harm in getting them both looked at! Thanks

Springy looks clear and Lola only has slight crustiness in her ears deep down. Both being treated for general mites as a precaution really with her having an extra dose in 2 weeks time. They're on xeno 450

Anybody know of a balm for dry rabbit ears. She's being treated for mites just in case but I've combed the dry out and it definitely looks like skin not mite related
