Everytime I think the rabbits are going to be fine they'll start having horrible sneezing fits and I realise i've got to do something else
Both have snuffles. Both have been treated with Baytril then Septrin, Metacam and now trying Piriton. They've both had a little bit of improvement with Baytril and Septrin. Lana almost stops sneezing but not quite, Luna gets a bit better so her sneezing fits are cut down but don't stop. When I come off the medicine, Luna gets bad again straight the way. Lana is doing okay at the moment. she's just on Metacam and Piriton and not sneezing much so vet thinks nasal passages might just be inflamed and damaged so might be able to manage it.
I have no idea what to do with Luna. Vet has given me a few options but don't know what to choose. He can do a swab to find out the bacteria, but he thinks that it's often quite ineffective because bacteria grows differently in lab than in the animal and might not be able to tell us much at all. I could go and see a specialist in Swindon, my vet seems quite good though and very rabbit savvy so I'm not sure whether to go or not, he says it'll be quite expensive there. I can start giving her penicillin injections but he says they won't cure her and will just manage to symptoms, I will have to give them every 3 days. If i could do this for a short course and it would help then I would do that but I can't afford to do it indefinitely. I could also take her to cardiff to use a nebuliser. Don't really know much about that.
Money is a major concern for me. Their insurance doesn't cover respiratory problems and I can't afford to do much at all. If it gets too bad and she's going to need treatment for the rest of her life, I will consider rehoming her. Would rescues take a rabbit with this condition? Her quality of life is good, she's very happy with a good appetite and you wouldn't think she was ill at all when she's not sneezing her little head off. It's very distressing to see though and it exhausts her so I know I have to do something. If I did rehome her eventually, would I have to give them both together? I wouldn't want to separate them but I could probably afford to manage Lana's health problems. This would be absolutely last option, short of putting them to sleep because of lack of money, so hoping I won't have to consider that for a long time if ever, just want to be prepared.
Sorry for that massive wall of text  Just getting worried because Luna kept me up all night with horrible sneezing fits and I know I'll have to take her back to the vet but don't know what to do when I get there! Vet is happy to go along with whatever I want to try.
