Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sneezing Fits

Hi

My Rex Rabbit, has been having sneezing fits she will sneeze and sneeze for a couple of minutes, she has been like this for the last couple of weeks. I haven't changed hay makers or sawdust. We took her to the vets yesterday, and the vet couldn't find anything wrong with her. She said she was fit and healthy, she gave her some antibiotics which we started yesterday.
Does anyone else's rabbit have sneezing fits, if so what do you did to help the situation

My rabbits have snuffles so are on antibiotics for that. The sneezing gets worse when there's a high pollen count though so I keep them indoors with the windows and doors shut and some fans going to keep them cool :) Might not be very helpful for you though.

Are they 'dry' sneezes-ie no nasal discharge ?

When she has a sneezing fit what is she usually doing-eating ? at rest ?

Have you noticed an increase in her respiratory rate ?

Has she lost weight ?

No no nasal discharge her nose is a bit wet. She sneezes in the run and in her hutch it doesn't matter where she is she will still sneeze. She is not breathing heavily or fast

Hopefully you will see an improvement after 2-3 days on Baytril. Sometimes it can help to give an anti-inflammatory such as Metacam too as the sneezing is often due to the fact that there is some inflammation in the nasal passages.
