  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

One of my outdoor buns has been euthanized due to catching mixi but he was vacinated, what is the risk of my indoor buns catching it?, they have not yet been vacinated as only recently spayed and neuted and I didnt want to do yo much at once so as not to shock them. Is it worth getting them vacinated on monday or would this not help especially as my outdoor bun was vacinated . Thry dont go outside and I will be buying them some new bedding and hay tomorrow but previous to that they had the same stuff as my outdoor bun. I dont want them to suffer too

Thankyou im so worried about my indoor pair but if the vaccination isnt working against this strain I dont know if its worth stressing them out for it

Personally I'd want to get them vaccinated ASAP as long as your Vet feels that they are in overall good health. Myxo is mostly spread by blood sucking insects, so indoor Rabbits are still at risk

I am sorry for your recent loss

So sorry you lost your bun . Myxomatosis is terrible

I agree with Jane, if your other buns are healthy I would vaccinate asap. There could be other reasons why the vaccination didn't protect your bun properly.
