Not a very nice start to my day.
Was doing my son's sarnies for today when there was an almighty bang on the kitchen window; always makes me jump (we get loads of pigeons hitting our windows but usually they're okay. I hope.). Went to check to see what type of bird it was and if it was okay and was horrified to see a young blackbird (I think) in its death throes on the patio. I phoned the vet but they were shut, but within a couple of minutes my son informed me that the poor thing was now motionless. I went out to check him and he was dead, with blood coming from his beak. I'm not ashamed to say I cried (and am welling up here now as I type).
