Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Elsie has a bald patch

Redhelen

I have noticed today that little Elsie the rex rabbit has a bald patch on her tummy. The skin is pink and healthy and I haven't seen her scratching.

She is eating and pooing normally and is quite happy. Could this be mites?

Any ideas please?

She is moulting yes - is that likely to cause a bald spot?

Humphrey, my rabbit, had a small bald spot on his side. Within a couple of days the hair was growing back well. As the skin looks fine and she's not scratching I'd be inclined to wait a couple of days to see if you start to see hair growth, and if not, a trip to the vets may be in order.

In my experience moulting is likely to be the cause though. :)
